Motif.!
The motif of the story is lack of control.
This is the recurring idea in the story. It
shows up in the story when Jill is in the
restaurant and the bus loads of tourists
come and all want to fed. Jill tries to correct
all the problems but can not. The motif of
lack of control drives the story and helps
create the plot line.

Connection #1.!
A connection I made to Pancakes's motif is to a novel Angels In Pink by Lurlene McDaniel. In Angels In Pink the main character Raina finds out she has a sister that she never knew of. Things start to get out of hand for Raina when her mother reveals something she rather not hear. In both stories the problems get out of hand and the characters have to do there best to make them right. They both try to organize the chaos but fail to and must accept what has happened.
Connection #2.!
A connection can be made through the show Phineas and Ferb. In the show, Candice is always trying to find order in the chaos her brothers, Phineas and Ferb, create. Her brothers make zany creations everyday. She always seems to have a problem with everything they do thinking that she should be in control and does anything and everything imaginable to stop it. In the end she can't stop it or show the creation to her mother before it is swept away by some random event or force in the story. That is similar to Pancakes because in the story Jill also tries her best to keep control of the situation and does what she can to stop it from falling apart. In both they can not stop the chaos from happening, but in the story Jill got help from Allen Feinman and his mother and everything worked out for her unlike Candice who it never does work out for.
